In the West, religious education for the mentally challenged (as well as parent support and teacher training for this task), was pioneered in part by Sister of the Holy Family Miriam Auxilium O’Gara. Her assistant, Sister of the Holy Family Josphine Crowley, is shown here making advent wreaths with students and family members. Proceeds from the sale of wreaths, candles, and candleholders helped fund ongoing programs.
